Traditionally, meditation is usually practiced in half-lotus or full-lotus. One should keep the spine straight to increase what the chinese call "spiritual circulation". The eyes are either closed, half-open and not focused, or open and focused on something like a candle. The arms are usually rested on the legs or bent so the hands are placed on the kneecaps. The hands and fingers can be adjusted to make an "o" or are just allowed to relax.
